IPTV on a Smart TV in Ireland: Samsung, LG and Android Sets

Using the television you already own is the tidiest option — no extra box, no second remote, nothing else plugged into the back. Whether it actually works well comes down to which operating system your set runs and what year it was made.

The short answer

Samsung sets running Tizen and LG sets running webOS can both install IPTV player apps from their own stores. Android TV and Google TV sets from Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense have the widest choice of apps. Televisions made before roughly 2018 tend to struggle with large channel lists, and a €40 streaming stick usually fixes that more cheaply than a new TV.

Worth knowing

Your TV's operating system matters far more than its brand or its screen size.
Typing a long password with a TV remote is the single most error-prone step — use a browser activation page where the app offers one.
If menus feel sluggish, the television is the bottleneck, not your broadband.

Setting it up

Get the TV on your home network and let it finish any pending firmware update.
Open the TV's own app store and install an IPTV player.
If the app asks for a MAC address to activate, find it under network settings and send it to us on WhatsApp.
Enter your login details, or open the activation web page the app displays and type them on a laptop instead.
Let the channel list finish loading, then hide the categories you will never watch.

That last step matters more than it sounds. A list trimmed to the channels you actually watch makes an older television feel years younger.

When to stop fighting the TV

Move to a Fire TV Stick or an Android box if your set predates about 2018, if menus lag behind your button presses, or if you want 4K on Premium and the built-in app will not do it. The television becomes a screen and the stick does the work — which is both cheaper and faster than replacing a perfectly good TV.

Some TV players tie their licence to the hardware rather than to an account. You will find the MAC address in the network settings menu. Send it to us and we will handle the activation.

Can I watch on the TV and my phone at the same time?

Yes, within your stream limit — 2 on Basic, up to 5 on Premium. A paused stream still counts while the connection stays open.

There is no IPTV app in my TV store. What now?

That is common on older sets and on some regional store versions. A streaming stick in a spare HDMI port solves it for far less than a new television.
